Oak kitchen cabinets – To painting oak kitchen cabinets, prepare cabinet doors for removal. Use a cloth and household degreaser or warm soapy water to clean the doors thoroughly. Let dry before removing the hinges and other hardware. Place the hardware in plastic bags and place in the cabinet they were removed from. Then, prepare cabinets and doors for grinding. Lay the doors on the paint surface.

You must hand – or electrically-sand doors and oak kitchen cabinets with a high-gloss finish, just enough to matte finish. For those without a shine, this step can be omitted – but for optimal results. It may be prudent to lightly sand all finished better primer and paint adhesion. Use a tack cloth (sticky cloth in hardware parts) to clean grinding dust from the doors and cupboards.

Perform two latex primers – preferably a stain-resistant product. Such as Zinsser or Kilz – inhibiting approval for all former wood stain on oak kitchen cabinets or doors. Allow primer to dry between coats. Apply two coats of paint for doors and cabinets, allowing adequate drying time between coats. You can optionally use a paint sprayer on cabinet doors; take care to spray evenly for a clear and uniform surface. Replace hardware. This can be done by using existing hardware or update new. Re-attach the doors to the cabinet frames.
